Switched Duplex Receptacles

In some of the rooms you will find a receptacle that looks like it is upside down compared to the other receptacles. This receptacle is known as a “1/2 hot”. This is because the receptacle that looks upside down, has one outlet that is controlled by a switch on the wall, while the other outlet has continuous power at all times. This receptacle has been provided so that a lamp can be plugged into the switched outlet and controlled by a switch located near entry way or door.
